The Role:

• Undertake Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Design for substation systems, including protection schemes, AC/DC switchgear, outdoor switchyards, substation buildings, and auxiliary systems such as batteries, chargers, and UPS.

• Develop and execute power system modelling and analysis studies covering protection coordination, load flow, short circuit, harmonics, flicker, motor starting, transient stability, arc flash, insulation coordination, and lightning protection.

• Design substation earthing systems, including earth grid layouts, step and touch potential analysis, EPR mitigation, and portable earthing arrangements.

• Prepare detailed protection and metering schemes, conduct technical and economic feasibility assessments, and support cost estimation and project planning activities.

• Contribute to the development and standardisation of engineering procedures, templates, and tools, while providing technical mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and graduates.

The Person:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
• Chartered Status (CPEng) – RPEQ membership is required (or ability to achieve within 6 months of starting the role).
• Possess detailed knowledge of design quality assurance processes and relevant standards, legislation, policies, and procedures applicable to designs and studies.
• Experienced with generating design scopes, specifications, and project estimating.
• Proficient in generating detailed technical reports and formulating concise technical arguments.
• Proven experience in delivering complete turnkey design solutions on projects with values up to $5mil.
• Strong understanding of the functional electrical design areas of HV substations, control, automation, protection, and communications systems.
• Experienced with supervision, direction, coaching, and mentoring of Engineers/Junior Engineers.
• Able to develop detailed, professional, and accurate designs, documents, and reports.
